The name over the door is John Jordan; he had the pub from around 1905 to 1907

The name over the door is John Jordan, which would date it to between 1905 and 1907. The adjoining cottages were demolished and an extension built. The date stone reads 1840. Picture Sheffield reference: s45002

The attached cottages on this side have been demolished, and the site is now a garage and carpark / beergarden.

One time landlord George Leonard Brook Sampson also ran a coach company. He was Ann Bramall's son-in-law. The junior partner in the company was his nephew Frank Grayson Mann (1900-1931). Both men died in 1931, as did Ann Bramall.

Taken when Ada Sampson was landlady; she took over after the death of her husband in 1931, and died at the Castle in 1949.

The man in the light coloured suit is Ben Woodhead (1881-1972). The man standing next to him with his hand on Ben's shoulder was the landlord at the time, known as 'Good Beer Jack'.

I'm told that this photo was taken in the tap room of the Castle, and that the man behind the bar was Ernest Fisher (landord from about 1949 to at least 1959). My grandad Brook Donkersley far right.
